1.) Quantity is Quality.
2.) Every second counts, there can not be a boring second, or a click away second, because if anyone does not watch every second of the short, they will not be led to the next short of yours. (Even very good shorts have a 30% click away, but the masters of the field have 85% retention.)
3.) Must have a simple hook. Expessable in a sentence or less.
3.) Describe the video with the first frame and thumbnail.
4.) The “mechanism” hooks them till the end. And easy one is to give a number, like “Here are the 3 steps…” Or, foreshadow.
5.) Always follow expectations, but have a twist.
6.) Exactly 34 seconds.
7.) Structure: Hook, Foreshadow, Transition (to give them a chance to beath).
Between a 1st and 5th grade level content. (There are online analyzers that make sure your dialog/text/content is not above a 5th grade level.
Quality or originality not all that important. The masters claim you could make a short of watching paint dry.
Platforms
Youtube: More mature, slower pace.
TicTok: Very dense, very short.
Instagram: More visual, more sharing. People leave the sound off! Yikes!
Ideas
Ideas come from watching others and asking yourself what do you want to watch.
Start with large number then ask: Do I want to make it? Is the hook good? Will people rewatch? Is there a virality aspect. (Masters maintain that ANY video can be made to be viral.)
Notes:
Primacy Recency (People remember the first and last thing said best.
Rapid changes in story. “I went on a walk, but it started raining, good thing I had an umbrella.” with rapid visual changes too. “But and “so” are more intriguing than just events.
A fun planning process is: write the idea down first, then the hook, then know your last line. Then look at it all and decide how to foreshadow.
